5/28/2007 – America Dishonors Her War Dead On Memorial Day – Opinion – Chattanoogan.com
America Dishonors Her War Dead On Memorial Day
posted May 28, 2007

This is Memorial Day, 2007, the last day of a three-day weekend that America sets aside every year to honor its war dead and its war veterans.

We here in America carry this out with speeches and ceremonies and the playing of Taps at our cemeteries. We hold festive entertainments with patriotic music and songs.

This general celebration, which includes a lot of flag waving and displays of Old Glory in front of our homes and along our streets, is the centerpiece and purpose of this three-day weekend.

Beyond that it’s all about fun gatherings of families and friends, eating and drinking and being merry, watching sporting events, traveling or just hanging loose and enjoying the freedom of a holiday.

As a combat veteran of the Vietnam War and as a person who hates needless war, warmongering and phony displays of patriotism, I despise Memorial Day because America does not truly honor her war dead, but dishonors them.

Jihad Watch

Why Jihad Watch?

Because the West is facing a concerted effort by Islamic jihadists, the motives and goals of whom are largely ignored by the Western media, to destroy the West and bring it forcibly into the Islamic world — and to commit violence to that end even while their overall goal remains out of reach. That effort goes under the general rubric of jihad.

Jihad (in Arabic, “struggle”) is a central duty of every Muslim. Modern Muslim theologians have spoken of many things as jihads: the struggle within the soul, defending the faith from critics, supporting its growth and defense financially, even migrating to non-Muslim lands for the purpose of spreading Islam. But violent jihad is a constant of Islamic history. Many passages of the Qur’an and sayings of the Prophet Muhammad are used by jihad warriors today to justify their actions and gain new recruits. No major Muslim group has ever repudiated the doctrines of armed jihad. The theology of jihad, which denies unbelievers equality of human rights and dignity, is available today for anyone with the will and means to bring it to life.

Jihad Watch is dedicated to bringing public attention to the role that jihad theology and ideology plays in the modern world, and to correcting popular misconceptions about the role of jihad and religion in modern-day conflicts. We hope to alert people of good will to the true nature of the present global conflict.

Army Squeezes Soldier Blogs, Maybe to Death -
The U.S. Army has ordered soldiers to stop posting to blogs or sending personal e-mail messages, without first clearing the content with a superior officer, Wired News has learned. The directive, issued April 19, is the sharpest restriction on troops’ online activities since the start of the Iraq war. And it could mean the end of military blogs, observers say.

Military officials have been wrestling for years with how to handle troops who publish blogs. Officers have weighed the need for wartime discretion against the opportunities for the public to personally connect with some of the most effective advocates for the operations in Afghanistan and Iraq — the troops themselves. The secret-keepers have generally won the argument, and the once-permissive atmosphere has slowly grown more tightly regulated. Soldier-bloggers have dropped offline as a result.

The new rules (.pdf) obtained by Wired News require a commander be consulted before every blog update.

California Chronicle: WHEN WILL ILLEGAL ALIEN INVASION WAKE THE SLEEPING GIANT?
Today, threat to our freedom is from elected officials who would destroy American Sovereignty, eliminate our constitutional freedoms without our consent and replace it with one world government. That’s a pretty big chore, Dr. G. Brock Chisolm said: “To achieve world government, it is necessary to remove from the minds of men, their individualism, loyalty to family traditions, national patriotism and religious dogmas.”

Others dared wake the sleeping American Giant of rage and unrelenting jealous defense of its liberty and homeland. Over 200 years ago, King George of England tried to impose stricter regulations on the colonies that could have resulted in cruelty similar to that leveled against Ireland. King George thought it an easy task to force a small tea tax on colonial subjects to let them know he was boss and they had no participation in their governance. King George declared himself the decider. That small indignity sparked a flame that forged the United Stares of America.

Hate Crime bill violates 1st Amendment rights, Christian leaders say
Hate Crime bill violates 1st Amendment rights, Christian leaders say

By Freddie Mooche

(AXcess News) Washington – Christian leaders have launched a campaign against a hate crimes bill passed by the House of Representatives yesterday, saying it violates 1st Amendment rights if a religious leader or pastor speaks out against homosexuality.

The bill, passed by a 237-180 margin, extends coverage of hate crimes to include anyone victimized because of sexual orientation, gender identity or disability. The bill, if approved by the Senate, would tie the hands of church leaders who say the hate bill is really about “thought crimes”, which violates church leaders’ freedoms of speech and religion.

Makes you wonder if 237 senaters aren’t butt buddys.

The Fiscal Cost of Low-Skill Households to the U.S. Taxpayer
Introduction

Each year, families and individuals pay taxes to the government and receive back a wide variety of services and benefits. A fiscal deficit occurs when the benefits and services received by one group exceed the taxes paid. When such a deficit occurs, other groups must pay for the services and benefits of the group in deficit. Each year, government is involved in a large-scale transfer of resources between different social groups.

Fiscal distribution analysis measures the distribution of total government benefits and taxes in society. It provides an assessment of the magnitude of government transfers between groups. This paper provides a fiscal distribution analysis of households headed by persons without a high school diploma. It measures the total benefits and services received by this group and the total taxes paid. The difference between benefits received and taxes paid represents the total resources transferred by government on behalf of this group from the rest of society.

Unabashedly Unhyphenated
It’s unconscionable that we have American kids being shortchanged by schools beset by the challenges imposed upon them by increasing numbers of illegal aliens. Perhaps the most lamentable travesties occur every time an American child is denied the opportunity to achieve the best results that his or her abilities might allow because the children of alien criminals forced costs shifts or social discordance in a public school.

How many American children must have their lives permanently altered for the worse before their plight starts to matter to those who misplace their compassion only with interlopers while ignoring the needs and futures of our native sons and daughters?

Islamic Slavery
The History of Islamic Slavery in Africa

By Susan Stephan
Slavery in the Arab World

Murray Gordon

New Amsterdam Books, New York, NY 1989

In his fact-filled work on the history of the Muslim Arab slave trade in Africa, Murray Gordon notes that this trade pre-dated the European Christian African slave trade by a thousand years and continued for more than a century after the Europeans had abolished the practice. Gordon estimates the number of slaves “harvested” from Black Africa over the period of the Muslim Arab slave trade at 11 million – roughly equal to the number taken by European Christians for their colonies in the New World.

“Despite the long history of slavery in the Arab World and in other Muslim lands, little has been written about this tragedy,” writes Gordon in his introduction. “Except for the few abolitionists, mainly in England, who railed against Arab slavery and put pressure upon Western governments to end the traffic in slaves, the issue has all but been ignored in the West.”
‘Conspiracy of Silence’ on Arab Slave Trade

Gordon decries a “conspiracy of silence. . .[that] has blocked out all light on this sensitive subject.” Among scholars in the Arab world, the author points out, “No moral opprobrium has clung to slavery since it was sanctioned by the Koran and enjoyed an undisputed place in Arab society.”

The book starts out with a brief outline of the growth of the Islamic attitude toward slavery. There is no evidence that Muhammad sought to abolish slavery, notes Gordon, although he urged slave-owners to treat their slaves well and grant them freedom as a meritorious deed.

“Some Muslim scholars have taken this to mean that his true motive was to bring about a gradual elimination of slavery. Far more persuasive is the argument that by lending the moral authority of Islam to slavery, Muhammad assured its legitimacy. Thus, in lightening the fetter, he riveted it ever more firmly in place.”

Family Security Matters
Report: Billions Flowing out of U.S. from Illegal Remittances

By Michael Cutler

The President has been trying to paint a rosy picture pertaining to our illegal immigration crisis. Last year he claimed that because arrests along the Mexican border were up, it should be interpreted that the Border Patrol was doing its job and the Border Patrol was dealing with the flood of illegal aliens across that border. This year the Border Patrol is claiming to be making fewer arrests and the President is now claiming that this indicates that there are fewer illegal aliens crossing our border with Mexico. It would seem that no matter what the statistics are, the President would find a way of showing that the crisis along our border with Mexico is being taken care of. It is a bit like saying, “Heads they win; tails we lose!”

Illegal Alien Protesters Take to the Streets Again
While hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens take to the streets of major US cities to protest their treatment by the US government, Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers arrested 148 illegal aliens, criminals and immigration fugitives during a four-day enforcement operation in Dallas.

Called Operation Cross Check, this localized, targeted enforcement initiative is part of an ongoing nationwide initiative focused on arresting criminal aliens. During this operation, ICE officers arrested 148 illegal aliens, including 41 with criminal convictions. Among those arrested were 124 men and 17 women; seven juveniles were also apprehended and returned to their countries of origin. Of the 148 aliens arrested, 84 have already been returned to Mexico.

The New Media Journal | Minnesota College begins Islamization Makeover by Sher Zieve
The first public college in the nation has now earnestly begun the Islamization of its campus. We presume this is only the first of many other colleges and universities that will now follow suit. Minneapolis Community & Technical College announced in March that it will renovate its bathrooms, in order to install ritual foot-washing basins for Muslims’ who are preparing for their prayers. Although the Star Tribune’s Katherine Kersten reports that the college’s Director of Legal Affairs Dianna Cusick stated that it is unconstitutional to promote any religion and “the Constitution prevents us from doing this in any form”, it strongly appears that this is precisely what the college is doing—by promoting its provision of deference to Islam

Why No New Immigration Law Will Ever Be Enforced by Jerome R. Corsi – HUMAN EVENTS
President Quietly Creating ‘NAFTA Plus’
by Jerome R. Corsi (More by this author)
Posted: 05/24/2006

Without announcing his intentions to do so, President Bush has decided to support the creation of a North American Union through a process of governmental regulations, never having to bring the issue before the American people for a clear referendum or vote.

The Bush Administration has decided to “back-door” the creation of a North American Union political entity that would effectively erase our borders with Mexico and Canada and create several super-regional governing bodies that would have jurisdiction over the U.S. Congress and the U.S. Supreme Court.

The ugly truth about illegal immigration protests
OK, let me get this illegal immigration debate straight. Let me set the record straight as to exactly what those in favor of excusing and encouraging illegal entry into the United States are really out to accomplish. Just so, we all have a clear understanding of what those who have been taking to streets all across America, are supporting. Let us examine the attitudes of those marching. Let us look at WHO is really behind many of these protests. Moreover, while we are at it, let us look at the consequences if those folks win this battle for America’s borders!

The average age of the world’s great civilizations has been 200 years. These nations have progressed through this sequence:

  • from bondage to spiritual faith
  • from spiritual faith to great courage
  • from courage to liberty
  • from liberty to abundance
  • from abundance to selfishness
  • from selfishness to complacency
  • from complacency to apathy
  • from apathy to dependency
  • from dependency back to bondage.

Greetings #4,

Yesterday I found the Cyber Cafe and know I can send emails now. It was actually pretty easy once I logged on to CWIA and figured out how to get my mail. That took a while. Today is the day off so I will go back over and mail these two greetings.

We started clinics on Tuesday. There is an MD, two medical students, nurses, 3 dentists and a hygienist. They have been very busy once they get started in the mornings. We are in the stadium where the meetings are going to be held. It has rained every day and our platform is outside. Better keep praying for miracles. Today we can=t have clinics because there is a Soccer game which we plan to attend this afternoon. The players work out there each day running up and down the bleachers, running in the field and doing exercises. No doubt they are black, they can’t even exercise without their sense of rhythm showing.

The medical patients are mostly suffering from intestinal problems due to contaminated food and water. There have been a couple people with AIDS. The dental has all been pulling of teeth. Hans says they have such solid bones it is difficult to pull their teeth. Poor people they have no chance of getting actual care, due to poverty. The average income is $2000 a year. I can’t do the math on that one considering the price of everything. Actually it bugs me no end we are staying in one of the best hotels. When we work in these places I think we should stay in the most minimal places that are safe and sanitary. All this does is set us apart even further from the nationals. This is one reason they hate Americans – jealousy. We are having to pay $50 a day here. It is clean and comfortable, (but doesn’t’t have a single drawer so I have to literally live out of a suitcase on the floor for the whole time.)

The church has a four dentist clinic here that stays busy. As usual it serves the rich. They do bush dentistry once in a while but have plenty to do right in their own office. By the way, no one asked them before they arranged for us to come. I was riding with the head dentist yesterday and asked why this is scheduled during the rainy season. His comment was, “Well, the powers-that-be, in some other country, were probably looking at their calendars and said, Awe don’t have anything scheduled for November why not do it then?” That makes sense to me, because if logic were what prevailed we would be here in January instead.

I have spent the past two days working on my programs. They don’t have a translator for me. Actually, it is a blessing because I have to redo several talks for Africa and my computer is not behaving well at all, I was so exasperated I was in tears yesterday.

We had an interesting incident two days ago. There was a huge black (what else) guy who thought he was a gorilla (and actually resembled one.) He wasn’t dirty and disheveled like most mentally ill people so maybe he was just high. Anyway, he because infatuated with our bus. He wouldn’t leave it alone. He would rub his face on the windows, Try to lift it, wrap his arms around it and eventually when we got away he chased us for two blocks, running like a gorilla the whole time. It was so weird that everyone on the streets were watching and the traffic came to a complete stop. In fact they even made way for us to Aescape@. Several of the people on the bus freaked out. It was there first day here!

There is a belief in “totems” here. The males are often assigned an animal when they are young which they can morph into. It seems they believe they can actually become the animal. So when people are hunting they have to be careful so they don’t shot Uncle Pogo in case that is they night he decides to morph into a lion or whatever he is. (Actually there are no wild animals here – they have all been eaten.) Anyway, I wondered if that guy was either demon possessed or high on drugs and if the gorilla was his animal. We will never know.

One of our team was “arrested” the other day for taking videos. It seems they are very suspicious that anyone with a camera is a spy. Of course the guy was an idiot. He was across the street from the American Embassy. Since Sept. 11 the street in front of the Embassy has been blocked to traffic with huge cement planter boxes. It was the main street of the city so it is a royal pain to daily travel. I heard on the Cameroonian news the other day that in the USA on Sept 11 hundreds of thousands of Americans died due to terrorists, so now they must be more alert to money laundering activities. Hmmmm, makes we wonder who is giving us a better exchange rate when we change money on the black market.

Enough chit chat. Hope to hear from you soon. Love, Hugs and Prayers,

D

PS Computer help! After one of the many times my computer froze up yesterday my desktop was reshuffled. In the process my taskbar ended up at the top and twice as wide as normal. How do I get it back down?

I’ll show you how to turn Windows 98 into a faster, more efficient operating system; you’ll hardly even recognize it.

One thing I’ve learned from living through the evolution of the PC is that like it or not, it takes just as long to write a two-page letter now as it did 15 years ago. So why, for example, do we need a word processor that supports embedded video clips? And why does Microsoft think an OS with an integrated Web browser and half a megabyte of sound clips will make our lives better? All the fluff Microsoft’s marketing gurus thought would sell you on the new OS could make a PC slower and less manageable. I’ll show you how to mold Win 98 into a lean, swift OS without spending a dime on add-ons.

Be a Good Listener Start by listening to your computer as Windows boots. Periods of silence–where the hard disk is not being accessed–most likely mean a hardware driver is being initialized. If you have a network card or other device installed that you don’t use, consider removing it or disabling its drivers using the Device Manager. In Control Panel, double-click the System icon and then find the device in question. Double-click it and select the “Disable in this hardware profile” option.

On the other hand, long periods of hard disk noise might mean that a bit of housecleaning is in order. Regularly running ScanDisk and Disk Defragmenter helps keep the hard disk clean. And if you like automation, try the Maintenance Wizard, a new Win 98 utility that walks you through the process of scheduling ScanDisk and Disk Defragmenter to run at predefined times. Because the program looks for unnecessary apps and unused files on the hard disk that can slow a system down, it’s worth using just to have it reclaim disk space.

If a computer often stalls for a few seconds, the most common culprit is a poorly configured swapfile. As a rule of thumb, if a system has at least 16MB of RAM, it will benefit from your overwriting the default swapfile settings. To do this, double-click the System icon in Control Panel and choose the Performance tab. Select the Virtual Memory button and then the “Let me specify my own virtual memory settings” option. By default, Windows sets the minimum swapfile size to 0 (zero) and the maximum to the amount of free disk space. If you don’t limit these numbers, Windows will simply continually resize the swapfile, thereby wasting time.

Set both the minimum and the maximum values to the same number, which should be approximately four times the amount of installed RAM (e.g., for 32MB, the swapfile should be 128MB). Of course, you’re limited by the amount of free space on the hard disk, so use another disk if that’s an option. You might have to experiment to find the best settings. Finally, defragment the swapfile. Unless you have Norton Utilities, you’ll have to do it the hard way (see the sidebar “Virtually Real Memory”). Continue reading »

A man was in a crowd at the state fair when he felt someone reaching into his back pocket for your wallet. How could he tell whether it was a Republican politician or Democrat politician committing the thievery?

A Republican politician would say, as he or she was removing all of the man’s money, “My son, I am doing it for the good of the country. Your money will buy us more weapons and me more votes.”

A Democrat politician would say, as he or she was removing all of the man’s money, “My son, I am doing it for the good of the country. Your money will buy us more social programs and me more votes.”

Either way the guy was robbed.

The point: be careful not to fall in love with either party. Power corrupts.

December 30, 1998 by: Phyllis Schlafly, Eagle Forum

Hiding behind the unprecedented headlines of the last few weeks, “Big Brother” government has been steadily expanding its encroachments on our personal privacy. What we thought was one of the most benign and beloved of federal agencies, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), proposed a revolutionary regulation called “Know Your Customer.” The proposed FDIC regulation would require each bank to do the following: determine the identity of all its customers, determine each customer’s sources of funds; determine each customer’s normal and expected bank transactions; monitor the activity of each account, looking for deposits and withdrawals that are inconsistent with the expected pattern of financial transactions; and report any transactions that someone might call “suspicious.”

Wow! Did you think that freedom in America includes the freedom to manage your own money without the government looking over your shoulder? Well, think again. Continue reading »

By: Cathi Long, Fri Jun 9th, 2006 05:40:26 PMKiteboarding lessons are a necessity for any newcomer to the sport of kitesurfing. American Kite Surfing Association (AKSA) has received questions from its members inquiring about the first steps towards excellent kitesurfing. AKSA president Logan Long recommends, “When beginning any new sport one should always consult with current professionals within the industry. Educating and learning the basics can prevent costly equipment repair or replacement and unnecessary injury.” AKSA will be naming the top schools and locations for kiteboarding lessons in early July.

This dramatic interest in the athletically demanding sport has given AKSA founders encouragement about the value of their newly founded organization. Long is quite enthusiastic about the sport: “It’s just simply the biggest adrenaline rush available. The combination of air, water, land, wind power, physical strength and balance the force of nature are the qualities that attract Kite Surfers.”

American Kite Surfing Association is the leading organization for kite surfers in North America. Founded in 2006 by two extreme sport enthusiasts, membership is anticipated to exceed 30,000 before the end of the year. The purpose of the enterprise is to bring heightened awareness to this fast-growing, dynamic, and fun sport. A vast array of information, products, and techniques are available to the visitors of the AKSA website, www.kite-surfingusa.com. After more than a decade of popularity through Europe and Australia, active North American extreme sport athletes are recognizing the maximum adrenaline rush through kite surfing. According to Cathi Long, co-founder of AKSA, “The exhilaration of hang time in kite surfing is unbeatable…kite surfers are simply the sexiest athletes.” AKSA will select 50 leading industry product manufacturers to highlight and profile throughout an extensive national media outreach campaign. Key retailers are also being invited to participate in one of the largest marketing co-op funding programs in extreme sport history.

Once you have found a women that you like, remembering these simple tips will help you impress her and you will both have a great time on your first date. Hopefully with many more to follow.

If you decide to ask this special women out for an evening with you, ask her when you both are alone. Never ask a girl out on a date in front of others, like her friends. This will either embarrass her, and may say yes or embarrass you, if she says no.

If you want advice on how to get the most out of online dating services get this free eBook that covers the benefits and the downsides of meeting girls via the internet. You can download a free copy of “Online Dating Secrets“.

Here is a list of what to do on your date to inpress your lady:

Look good, be neat. Put extra effort to the way you look. Take the time be well groomed, smell nice and choose your clothes well. It must correspond to the place with which your date is set. Make a good impression, so you can charm her and she can be proud of you.

Do not be late. Prepare for the big day ahead. Make the necessary reservations and planning for your date. If you have planned for it, she will be impressed that you did put some effort on your night together. Be sure that during the “big day” you have no appointments so you won’t be cramming and be on time.

Be polite. Be sure to make her feel good by complementing the way she looks. And when seated at the table, turn your cell phone off. This will signal to her that you are very much interested in your moment together.

Say her name. Make it a point to say her name ever so often in your conversations, to make her feel at ease and special.

Smile. Aside from putting up a positive attitude, your smile is an indication that you are happy to be with her.

Have a Sense of Humor. Making a woman laugh means you have won half your battle. This means that she is having a nice time and creates a positive atmosphere. This will be an occasion she would remember, because she had fun!

Be attentive. Listen to what she has to say or is saying, do not interrupt. Let her finish, before you state your opinion and make eye contact.

Relax. Do not worry that your date is not having a good time. Go ahead and ask her. Just manage yourself well and enjoy the evening. Keep the conversations open and ask questions. Be sincere.

Enjoy. Dating should be exciting and relaxing. A woman could sense if you are enjoying or not. Don’t stress yourself trying so hard to make it “The Perfect Date” because it won’t be. But you both can enjoy it. After all, you did invite her out because you liked her in the first place. Be spontaneous and have fun.

1. Timing is important – Timing as in ‘on time’. No matter what they say, there is no such thing as ‘fashionably late’. For the first date, this can give the guy jitters and make him think that you’ve stood him up. For the later dates, having him wait for you in the living room for half an hour with either your roommate, your sister or, worse, your father is not something you want him to do – whether it be for the embarrassing stories or Dad’s ‘eyes of doom’.

2. Be nice – Have a positive attitude, find things that you like and tell him. Compliment him about his clothes, how he looks and how well the date is going. It puts him at ease and also makes him feel important. It also shows him that you’re taking notice of him and you appreciate him.

But, don’t lie. Like I said, look at the bright side of things – the service of the restaurant may have been slow but the ambience was terrific. Try making it into a habit, you aren’t lying – you’re just being diplomatic!

3. Do not complain – This doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t tell him that something is wrong or something makes you uncomfortable. The way you phrase it and the tone you use is important here. ‘Venting’ will not going to go over well with him because he’ll probably misinterpret it. Grin and bear it then tell him after the date in calm, reasoned tones your problem. Trust me, he’ll understand and he’ll try to make it up to you.

4. Enjoy the date – A date is a chance to get to know each other and to enjoy yourselves. Have fun during the date. Try not to be hyper-critical and just take things in stride. If you’re not having fun, your date will notice and, trust me, he will get nervous which will probably start ruining the experience for both of you.

Also, just let your guard down for a little while. Let him see the real you. He may or may not like it, but in the end he will appreciate the honesty of the act. Besides, if he doesn’t like you for you, why should you keep on dating?

5. Afterwards, show interest – If you really like the guy, waiting for the call after a successful date is nerve-wracking. Try giving him a day or two. He usually has to get his act together and work up the courage to call. If he doesn’t call, he’s probably still tongue-tied from being in your presence. Call him up to say hello. Talk about the date and how you had fun and give hints. He will pick up on it and he’ll probably be asking you for another date!

Well, there are five tips for dating success. Hopefully, this dating advice could help lead you through today’s tough tangle of relationships. Happy hunting!
